Getting around using the tunnel

The new tunnel will provide a direct route under downtown from the stadiums to the Space Needle. The south end connects to Alaskan Way and downtown, the north end connects to Seattle Center and South Lake Union.

Viaduct removal starts early 2019

The Alaskan Way Viaduct will remain open until the #realign99 closure begins. Shortly after the tunnel opens, crews will begin removing the viaduct, as well as closing and filling the Battery Street Tunnel and rebuilding three blocks of Aurora Avenue North.

Tolls in the tunnel

The tunnel will be free to use when it first opens. The Washington State Transportation Commission has proposed SR 99 tunnel toll rates ranging from $1 to $2.25 for Good To Go! customers.
